According to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO) Article 13:

"The responsible person must ensure that the premises are, to the extent that it is appropriate, equipped with appropriate fire-fighting equipment and that such equipment must be subject to a suitable system of maintenance and be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair."
